Its that time of the year again. That time when the pressure to give a report of what you have achieved the past 365 days mounts. The time when the pressure to submit what you expect to achieve in the next 365 days is at its peak.

Its that time when the phrase “Hizo tabia zibaki 2018” and others like “New year new me” are all over the air…and the social interactions. Its that time when posts about how great 2018 was are all over Instagram and Facebook. That time when video slides are all over the internet highlighting the greatest achievements of individuals in 2018.

And you just there like “Woi!! What did I achieve?”

But hey, before you start the self-punching and pitying;

Pause for a minute.

The year is over; when you look at what you have achieved you see nothing?

When you think of what you want to achieve you get a brain freeze?

Worry not pal. See, the simple fact that you pulled through that freaky 2018 year, that in itself is an achievement.

The simple fact that your mind is still intact, that your diaphragm is still contracting and relaxing, that your right and left ventricles and auricles are still contracting and expanding, that in itself is one of the greatest achievements. Are we together?

I know, I know; we are ambitious, we have goals, we have visions. Damn, I myself get the remarks that am ambitious from almost everyone in my circle. And there’s nothing wrong with being any of those things; nothing wrong with being a dreamer/achiever. But you know what’s wrong? What’s wrong is letting the pressure get to you. What’s wrong is letting other people’s timelines apply to your own life. What’s wrong is measuring your individual achievements by comparison.

I know you have probably heard this a trillion and one times; but hey, repeating it one more time might be all we need for the notion to sink in: Run your race, finish your race, hit your timelines. Graduate at 20, graduate at 30 in the end, you still graduate. Travel the world at 21, travel at 50; in the end, you still travel the world…

Its all gonna be okay.

It will be fine; trust the process.

Find your peace. As long as you know what you want, as long as you keep your eyes on the prize, as long as you draw out a map to follow to your journey and for as long as your pursue your individual journey; everything will all end up just fine.

It’s a new year, yes. If you have your resolutions, well and good. If you don’t, don’t fret. We are all trying to figure out this b.s that’s life, okay?

Don’t pressure yourself too much and don’t let the pressure get to you.

Remember, it’s never that serious!

That being said; Happy new year folks!
